So as the title implies I finally went out and found a pair of shoes that I like. While not perfect just yet, they are far better than the worn out sneakers I have been working out in. Of course I just had to go out and do a full workout in them without really breaking them in at all. So other than the need to loosen them up a little bit, the shoes worked really well. Having the extra padding in the heel area of the shoe really made a difference in my workout. For the first time since I started this journey, I had a workout where my knees and shins weren't killing me after a run/walk day.
Today, I also started phase two of the Couch to 5K plan. The new goal is to warm-up for five minutes and then run and walk intermittently for 90 seconds at a time for each. With the exception of the last 90 second run (which I ended up cutting to a minute) I felt good doing the workout. That doesn't mean it didn't kick my butt too, because it did, but that's the point right? I was definitely sucking wind during the whole thing, but it really felt like I was making progress. In fact I am making progress, the result of today's weigh in is 271.6, which means a drop of 3.4 pounds for the week. This brings the two week total to 6.4 pounds. I guess all this time at the gym is actually doing something. I might have to bust out my skinny jeans after all.

You need to get into a shop that watches you run and match your stride to the proper pair of shoes.
ReplyDeleteI like http://www.fleetfeetsports.com/ they haven't been wrong so far.
I'll look into that Dave. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look like they have one in LA.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest going to a store that just sells running gear instead of a Big 5 or something like that.. There has got to be something. Its is LA for gods sake
ReplyDeleteDave is right abut the shoes. If you can't find a Fleet Feet Sports, at least try a store that specializes in running shoes and clothes. Another tip, have more than one pair and alternate them. The shoes will last longer and so will you. Congrats on reaching Phase 2.
